Our Book List for Teachers, Students, Seekers and the Just Plain Curious

I first found Christians Practicing Yoga in 2017. I printed out the first few blog posts because I was so excited to find someone else talking about yoga and Christianity. I highlighted the key points others had already challenged me on for later reference. At that time, I saw Christians Practicing Yoga as a glimmer of light when I had no clue where to begin. Even now as I am in the realm of academia, I find it difficult to find resources on the intersection of Christianity and yoga.

Since then Christians Practicing Yoga has developed our resources even further. Last year we added more voices and perspectives to our blog. One year later, we collectively created a working bibliography for others who started out like me. We hope this bibliography will give you, whether teacher, student, seeker and the just plain curious, a place to begin. You will find it in our main navigation under the title “selected bibliography.” You can link direct to the index here.

After months of deliberation and careful thought, we decided to divide the bibliography into seven sections: Jesus & Yoga, Appreciation; Jesus & Yoga, Criticism; Jesus & Yoga, Discussions of Cultural Appropriation; Religious Studies, Discussion of the Intersection of Christianity and Yoga; Understanding Yoga: Commentary on Modern & Classical Yoga; Interfaith Perspectives; and Works on Meditation/Contemplative Prayer for Christians.

We provide this list in the hope that you will be encouraged, educated, and enlightened by the insights of the many and growing number of people who have thought about the connections, overlaps, differences, and integrations of these two traditions. Contributors include Kevin, Renee, Doreen, Allyson, Tom, Molly and Abhi. We will continue to update these resources as time for reading and annotating allows. If you would like to offer a suggestion for a book which has contributed to your understanding of Yoga and Christianity, please email us and tell us more. We are not accepting submissions directly from authors or publishers.
